UST ranked sixth among 347 Philippine universities in the 2026 Alper-Doger (AD) Scientific Index, where a pool of 455 Thomasian scientists contributed to the University’s research profile.
The index ranks institutions based on the performance of their scientists, as measured by citation scores and the author impact index values on Google Scholar. Long-term contributions of institutions and their productivity are also highlighted in the index.
The system evaluated scientists on their total and the last six years’ citation scores, as well as the author impact index from Google Scholar. The authors are then ranked by subject, institution, country, region, and the world.
UST improved its world ranking, rising to 4,445th from 5,421st.
One UST scientist notched a spot in the top 10% of researchers in the world, 29 made it in the top 30%, 83 were included in the top 50%, and 166 clinched rankings in the top 70%.
Here are the top 25 scientists of the University ranked in the AD Scientific Index:
No. 1 – Prof. Raymond Rosales
Prof. Raymond Rosales of the UST Research Center for Health Sciences (RCHS) led the crop of Thomasian scientists in the latest AD Scientific Index with 6,288 citations across 95 publications. His published works explore movement disorders, Parkinson’s disease, Dystonia, and electrodiagnosis. Rosales ranked 23rd in the Philippines in terms of total citations.
No. 2 — Prof. Allan de Guzman
Prof. Allan de Guzman ranked second among Thomasian scientists, with 3,480 citations across 97 publications. De Guzman, a researcher at the UST Research Center for Social Sciences and Education (RCSSED), was credited for pioneering the thesis-by-article format in the Philippines.
No. 3 — Prof. Thomas dela Cruz
Prof. Thomas dela Cruz of the Department of Biological Sciences was the third highest-ranked Thomasian scientist, amassing 2,709 citations across 72 publications. Dela Cruz, also a researcher at the UST Research Center for the Natural Sciences and Applied Sciences (RCNAS), was the No. 2 scientist in the country’s microbiology category.
No. 4 — Prof. Grecebio Alejandro
Prof. Grecebio Alejandro of the Department of Biological Sciences has 2,204 citations from 61 publications. The RCNAS researcher’s publications explore natural and biological sciences.
No. 5 — Asst. Prof. Frederick Masangkay
Asst. Prof. Frederick Masangkay of the Department of Medical Technology has published over 50 research articles, focusing on parasitology, bacteriology, and biomedical science, which have been cited 1,596 times.
No. 6 – Prof. Fortunato Sevilla III
Professor Emeritus Fortunato Sevilla III, former RCNAS director, ranked sixth with 1,461 citations across 33 publications. The former College of Science dean is one of the few Filipino scientists specializing in development of chemical sensors and biosensors for medical, agro-food, and environmental analyses.
No. 7 – Prof. Marc Eric Reyes
Prof. Marc Eric Reyes of the Department of Psychology was cited 2,612 times across 48 publications. In 2022, Reyes was among the top producers of Scopus-indexed academic journal articles, with his research interests spanning LGBT psychology, mental health, and suicidology.
No. 8 — Dr. Catherine Teh
Dr. Catherine Teh, an alumna of the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, is the chief of the Hepatobiliary Surgery Section at the Makati Medical Center. Her 32 publications have accumulated 5,557 citations, and are focused on cancer surgery and general surgery.
No. 9 — Asst. Prof. Giovanni Milanez
Asst. Prof. Giovanni Milanez, formerly affiliated with the Department of Medical Technology, ranked ninth with 1,197 citations across 35 publications. His published works focus on natural and biological sciences, including protozoology.
No. 10 — Assoc. Prof. Oliver Villaflores
Assoc. Prof. Oliver Villaflores of the Department of Biochemistry is ranked 10th among Thomasian scientists, with 1,677 citations across 29 publications. His studies focus on medical and health sciences, as well as biochemistry. He is a researcher at RCNAS.
No. 11 — Asst. Prof. Nikki Dagamac
Asst. Prof. Nikki Dagamac of the Department of Biological Sciences tallied 1,329 citations across 48 publications on natural and biological sciences, including climate change.
No. 12 — Prof. Rey Donne Papa
Science Dean Rey Papa is the 12th most-cited Thomasian researcher according to the 2026 AD Scientific Index. Papa, also a researcher under RCNAS, garnered 1,183 citations across 45 publications.
No. 13 — Fr. Nicanor Austriaco, O.P.
Fr. Nicanor Austriaco, O.P. of the Department of Biological Sciences ranked 13th among Thomasian scientists in the latest global scientific index with 2,725 citations across 36 publications, most of which are in probiotics, molecular biology, and bioethics.
No. 14 — Asst. Prof. Leonid Zamora
Asst. Prof. Leonid Zamora of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery ranked 14th among Thomasian scientists and was cited 1,182 times across 22 publications. His articles are focused on medical and health sciences, as well as immunology.
No. 15 – Prof. Leilani Mercado-Asis
Prof. Leilani Mercado-Asis of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery ranked 15th among Thomasian scientists and was cited 1,525 times across 32 publications. Her research focuses on endocrinology and medical education.
No. 16 — Prof. Maribel Nonato
Prof. Maribel Nonato of the Department of Chemistry placed 16th among Thomasian scientists with 994 citations across 27 publications. Nonato’s research focuses on natural and chemical sciences.
No. 17 — Prof. John Donnie Ramos
Prof. John Donnie Ramos of the Department of Biological Sciences has been cited 1,035 times from 32 publications, securing the 17th position among UST scientists. He is a researcher under RCNAS. The former Science dean’s research interests are in natural sciences, molecular biology and genetics.
No. 18 — Prof. Mario Tan
