FLEXIT Mobility Solutions Inc., the new operator of the UST Multi-Deck Parking (MDP), released updated parking rates on Monday, Nov. 17, with Thomasians exempted from the newly imposed P1,000 overnight fee.

Under the new policy, vehicles that enter the car park before or during the 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. cut-off and exit after 4 a.m. will automatically incur the P1,000 change.

However, UST students, faculty members, employees, administrators, alumni, doctors, hospital personnel and patients will only be charged the regular night parking rate of P50 for the first two hours and P15 per hour for succeeding hours.

Thomasians must present a valid UST-issued identification cards, while patients must have their parking ticket validated and present a clearance slip from the UST Hospital to qualify for the regular night parking fee.

“We had a scheduled meeting today with the UST Hospital to determine the process of validation for UST Hospital stakeholders to ensure that [the] Thomasian community shall be the priority to park,” Charles Deita, chief executive of FlexIT Mobility Solutions Inc., told the Varsitarian.

The announcement of the P1,000 overnight fee on Nov. 16 drew complaints on social media.

According to Deita, the overnight rate was meant to discourage outsiders from using the MDP for prolonged parking.

FlexIT discovered that more than 100 of the car park’s 600 slots were occupied by outsiders who had practically turned the slots into their garages.

In the updated parking rates, students will be entitled to a discount at a far wider timeframe, provided they enter the MDP starting at 4:00 a.m. Student rates remain the same at P40 for the first four hours and P15 for the succeeding hour or fraction thereof.

The previous car park operator, Selegna Holdings Corp., priced overnight parking at P50 with a P15 fee for every succeeding hour for entries from 6:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. Student discounts were only available from 12 noon and beyond.

Senior citizens and persons with disabilities residing in Manila may park for free for the first two hours, and will have to pay P40 on the third and fourth hours and the regular P15 per hour fee for succeeding hours.

A fee of P300 and the applicable parking rate will be charged to clients who will lose or damage their parking tickets.

As of writing, no car park patrons have yet to be charged the full overnight fee.

According to Deita, a new rate sign will be installed tomorrow.
