UST HOSPITAL on Friday announced it would regulate admissions and postpone elective procedures in selected units due to a reduced workforce, amid an increase in patient admissions.

In a statement, the UST Hospital management said a total of 530 hospital staff including consultants, fellows, residents, nurses, and aides have been quarantined due to exposure to patients with, or suspected to have, the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

“To address the issues brought about by the depleted workforce, we have consolidated several wards in the Private and Clinical Division, temporarily held elective admissions and had to temporarily stop elective procedures in selected units,” the statement read.

The Clinical Division Medical Ward has been designated as the Covid Unit for patients classified as Covid-positive, or patients under investigation.

The hospital also said the enhanced community quarantined further depleted its workforce, and there was a shortage of personal protective equipment.

UST Hospital assured the public that it was closely keeping track of the situation and would regularly release updates on the schedules of all operations units.

On March 17, UST Hospital discharged one patient who tested positive for Covid-19 based on the discharge criteria set by the Department of Health.

The number of Covid-19 cases in the Philippines has jumped to 380 as of writing.
