Antonio Montalvan II quoted the editorial, which took the government to task for its response to the coronavirus outbreak, in his opinion column “Kris-Crossing Mindanao.”
“It is remarkable that a student publication lends its voice to the court of public opinion,” Montalvan wrote.
“Public writing with bravado in the time of tyranny empowers the terrified to have hope. In the Varsitarian, we have those makings,” he said.
Montalvan threw shade on Mocha Uson, deputy administrator of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, an alumna of the University.
“Unlike one ill-reputed [Thomasian] alumnus known for her sex tutorial videos, the Varsitarian has had no troll farms,” the column read.
The Varsitarian published its editorial titled “Covid-19 — wages of Duterte’s treasonous pro-China policy,” on its website on April 21.
