THE UNIVERSITY has appointed a former prior provincial of the Dominican Province of the Philippines as an administrator at UST General Santos (GenSan).
Fr. Edmund Nantes, O.P., formerly the top Dominican in the Philippines and UST vice chancellor, was named associate vice rector for finance of UST GenSan in an Aug. 12 circular from the Office of the Secretary General.
He replaces Fr. Roberto Luanzon, O.P., the UST vice rector for finance, who had served as officer in charge.
Nantes was also named chaplain of the School of Business and Accountancy.
A UST alumnus, Nantes obtained his philosophy degree from the Studium Generale at Sto. Domingo Convent with cum laude honors, and his master’s degree in higher religious studies at UST.
He was ordained into the priesthood in 1981 and taught at the UST Faculty of Sacred Theology from 1988 to 1999. Before becoming Filipino prior provincial in 2004, Nantes was the treasurer of the Rome-based Order of Preachers.
Nantes left UST in 2007 alongside the rector, Fr. Ernesto Arceo, O.P., and vice rector, Fr. Juan Ponce, O.P., over a dispute on the redevelopment of UST Hospital.
He was engaged in missionary work in Indonesia before his recent return to UST.
In the same circular, Asst. Prof. Celso Noel Aban was appointed manager of TOMASInno Center, the technology business incubator of UST established in 2019.
Aban had served as assistant manager of the innovation center under Raymond Marquez.
The Center for Campus Ministry will have Benjohn Espares of the Institute of Religion as its new assistant director. Carlo Jose H. Ruga
