FOR THE first time in five years, Central Student Council (CSC) aspirants will engage in in-person campaigning, the Central Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced.
In a memorandum released on Sept. 13, the Central Comelec announced a six-day onsite campaign period from Oct. 14 to 19, the first to be held since the Covid-19 pandemic.
Central Comelec Chairperson Franz Soriano said the onsite campaign would help Thomasians get a better grasp of the election process.
“We will be able to understand it better. We will now have a gauge on how it happens so that when the Term 2 regular elections are here, we will be aware,” Soriano told the Varsitarian.
This year’s CSC Executive Board elections will have only two candidates: medical biology junior Meckia Villanueva, running for secretary, and legal management sophomore Annie Agon, who is vying for the public relations officer post.

Online campaigning will run from Sept. 15 to 28. No campaign activities will be permitted between Sept. 29 and Oct. 13 due to the moratorium set during preliminary examinations.
Tagisan, the mandatory debate for CSC Executive Board bets, will be on Oct. 19.
Campaigning will be suspended on Oct. 20, a day before the start of the University-wide elections on elections on Oct. 21. Thomasians will have until Oct. 26 to cast their votes.
The canvassing of votes and proclamation of new CSC Executive Board officers will take place during the “Proklamasyon” on Oct. 26.
This year’s elections followed the mass withdrawal of all seven CSC candidates in March, which forced the postponement of the voting to Term 1.
It also witnessed the lowest turnout of CSC Executive Board aspirants in recent years.
