A UST communication graduate has been named director general of the Presidential Broadcast Service – Bureau of Broadcast Services (PBS-BBS), which operates government-owned radio stations nationwide.
Fernando “Dindo” Amparo Sanga, a veteran broadcast journalist who graduated from UST in 1986, took his oath as the new PBS-BBS director general on Sept. 18. He replaced Rizal Giovanni Aportadera, who had held the post since 2016.
Prior to the appointment, Sanga was head of ABS-CBN’s Integrated News Gathering.
Sanga first ventured into broadcast journalism in 1987 when he joined Radyo ng Bayan under DZRB in Lucena City, as a reporter. DZRB is operated by the PBS-BBS, with Radyo ng Bayan Manila as its flagship station.
He served as a development information officer at the Philippine Information Agency from 1987 to 1989. Sanga took on a radio reporter role at the defunct station DZMM before his stint as a TV reporter in 1994.
After a stint as ABS-CBN reporter and desk editor, Sanga became head of ABS-CBN’s Middle East Bureau.
He was assistant vice president of ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs from 2014 to 2020.
Sanga’s appointment marked his return to PBS-BBS, where he worked as a reporter and announcer from 1989 to 1994.
Established via Executive Order 297 in 1987, the PBS-BBS is attached to the Presidential Communications Office and has the mandate to deliver information on government activities, policies, and directives through broadcast channels.
The bureau operates 33 radio stations nationwide. Carlo Jose H. Ruga
