JOSEMARIA “Jomar” Javier Divina, son of UST Civil Law Dean Nilo Divina, died on Oct. 4 following cardiac arrest. He was 31.
Jomar was the second among the five sons of Nilo and Maria Corazon Divina.
He was in Vietnam with his father to join a trip of the Divina law firm.
Dean Divina confirmed Jomar’s passing to the Varsitarian, describing his son as “loving and sweet,” while recalling the memories they shared.
“We traveled a lot together. We had our almost weekly one-on-one lunch or dinner where he impressed me with his encyclopedic knowledge,” Nilo told the Varsitarian.
“What stood out the most [in] my memory with him was his fondness [for] affectionately kissing me on both cheeks every Sunday Mass,” he added. “I will always remember [Jomar] as my lucky charm then and now.”
Jomar was born on May 10, 1993.
He had been enrolled at STI College, although his studies were frequently interrupted due to his special needs and conditions, according to Dean Divina.
Jomar worked for various video game companies, including EA Sports, where he served as an assistant lead tester.
In a Facebook post, DivinaLaw, where the UST law dean serves as managing partner, described Jomar as a “loving son” and “devoted brother” with a “beautiful soul.”
“He was full of life, always the light in the room, and touched many with his kindness,” the post read. “Taken too soon at the young age of 31, he will forever be missed.”
Jomar’s wake will be until Oct. 14 at the Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Oct. 15, followed by interment at the Heritage Memorial Park.
The Divina family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Haven of Hope Foundation, which supports children with special needs.
