UST GENERAL Santos (GenSan) has officially appointed its first-ever associate vice rector for academic affairs, tasked with overseeing the implementation of academic policies at the Mindanao campus.
Apart from his new post, Prof. Edilberto Manahan will continue to serve as the director of the campus’s School of Health and Sciences. He will work closely with Prof. Cheryl Peralta, UST’s vice rector for academic affairs.
His appointment was announced by the Faculty of Pharmacy, where he previously served as chair of the Department of Medical Technology, on Sept. 26 and was made official by the Office of the Secretary General in an Oct. 7 circular.
Manahan also serves as the secretary of the Philippine Association of Medical Technologists.
Also appointed was Fr. Roman Santos, O.P., who will lead the farm affairs of the Mindanao campus, which is envisioned to be an agricultural technology school by 2030.
Santos is formerly the finance director of the UST Hospital, a position now held by Fr. Maximo Gatela, O.P.
Gatela was the director of UST’s Office of Grants, Endowments, and Partnerships in Higher Education, the office tasked to ensure sustained financial support for the UST Research and Endowment Foundation, Inc.
He was also the director of the Dominican-run Angelicum School Iloilo but resigned in 2020 after prematurely announcing its closure amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Replacing him as grants director is Levine Lao, the office’s former executive assistant.
Lao is a former Varsitarian managing editor. Sydney Venice V. Berba
