THE UNIVERSITY produced 44 new chemists in the October 2024 licensure examinations, with a 61.97% passing rate.

The number of Thomasian passers came from a pool of 71 examinees. 

UST’s passing rate was an improvement from the 55.22% rating it had in December 2023, when 37 out of 68 examinees passed.

Christlen Olivares of Ateneo de Manila University topped the exams after scoring 94.10%. 

Emerging as the top-performing school was the University of the Philippines Los Baños, which logged a 90.57% passing rate (48 of 53).

The national passing rate climbed to 54.41% (592 of 1,088) in the recent cycle from 51.74% (594 of 1,148) in December 2023.

Chemical technicians

UST recorded a 94.07% passing rate in the separate licensure exams for chemical technicians, with 111 out of 118 Thomasian examinees making the cut.

This rating almost matched the 94.67% passing rate UST had recorded in the previous cycle, when 142 of 150 Thomasians made the cut.

Dexter Mas of Eastern Visayas State University Tacloban and Justtine Vega of Bicol University Legazpi each scored 91.50% to share the No.1 spot. 

The Technological University of the Philippines Visayas was named the top-performing school after all of its 67 examinees passed. 

The national passing rate for chemical technicians dipped to 77.83% (2,110 of 2,711) from 82.86% (2,600 of 3,138) in December 2023.
