THE UST Alumni Association Hong Kong raised cash to aid Filipinos affected by severe tropical storm “Kristine” during a 24-hour fundraising drive.
The fundraiser, held from Oct. 26 to 27, was part of the broader “Tomasino Para sa Kapwa Pilipino” initiative organized by the Thomasian Alumni Community Foundation Inc. and the UST Alumni Association Inc. (USTAAI).
In a Facebook post marking the end of the relief drive, the alumni chapter announced it had collected HKD 10,000 or P73,046.02.
“Thank you all for your contributions in making this possible and for augmenting the mobilization efforts of our wider Thomasian network in the Philippines,” the post read.
Launched on Oct. 23 by the USTAAI and the Thomasian Alumni Community Foundation Inc., the “Tomasino Para sa Kapwa Pilipino” relief effort sought to assist typhoon-hit areas in Capalonga, Camarines Norte and Naga, Camarines Sur.
In an earlier interview with the Varsitarian, Angie Tuazon, advocacy head of both UST alumni foundations, said relief operations began in Bicol on Oct. 23, with alumni groups continuing to send in-kind donations as of Oct. 26.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, storm “Kristine,” along with the emerging typhoon “Leon,” has resulted in 125 casualties and affected 7.13 million Filipinos, with 531,387 still in evacuation centers.
