A UST law alumna has been appointed assistant solicitor general by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Samantha Camitan, who obtained her law degree from UST in 2006, joined a team of at least 30 assistant solicitors general on Nov. 8. They will serve under the Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra.

Prior to her appointment, Camitan had served as a senior state solicitor since 2018.

Camitan completed her bachelor’s degree in economics at the UST Faculty of Arts and Letters in 2002. She is a former president of the Faculty of Civil Law Student Council, who earned the Quezon Leadership Award in 2008.

Five representatives were appointed to departments such as the Department of Agriculture, Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development, Department of Trade and Industry, and Ease of Doing Business and Anti-Red Tape Advisory Council.

The Office of the Solicitor General, formerly known as the Bureau of Justice, was founded in 1901 to serve as the legal representative of the government and the Republic of the Philippines.
