PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has picked UST Arts and Letters Faculty Union President Rene Tadle to join the board of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) as a labor representative.
Tadle, who teaches at the UST Department of Philosophy, will serve a three-year term, according to the appointment letter signed by Marcos on Oct. 28.
He was sworn into office on Nov. 13 in a ceremony attended by Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma and Tesda Secretary Jose Francisco Benitez.
As Tesda board member, Tadle will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and integrating policies related to technical education and skills development. He joins representatives from other sectors such as employer, business and investment, and education and training groups.
Tadle had served in TESDA in four instances: from 1999 to 2004, 2014 to 2017, 2018 to 2021, and 2021 to 2024, during which he held roles such as chair and co-chair of committees such as finance, standards, and institutional capacity building.
Tadle is the lead convenor of the Council of Teachers and Staff of Colleges and Universities of the Philippines and spokesperson of the UST labor coalition Organisasyon ng Nagkakaisang Empleyado ng UST.
He previously served as vice president of the UST Faculty Union and president of the UST College of Nursing’s faculty club.
Tesda was established in 1994 during President Fidel Ramos’s term to enhance skills development and ensure workforce mobility across industries, local government units, and technical-vocational institutions.
