UST Hospital has been recognized with the Patients’ Health Facility Choice Award for the National Capital Region (NCR) by the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth).

This award, announced on Nov. 19, recognizes healthcare facilities that demonstrate compassion, expertise, and the principles of the Universal Health Care Law.

“This award is a testament to [the UST Hospital’s] commitment to the Universal Health Care law, consistently demonstrating excellence in patient care and innovation in medical technology,” the citation read.

Bernadette Lico, PhilHealth’s vice president for NCR and Rizal, presented the award during a ceremony at Sheraton Manila Bay.

Alongside the UST Hospital, the National Kidney and Transplant Institute in Quezon City and Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center in Manila also received the award for NCR hospitals.

The Universal Health Care Law, or Republic Act. 11223, was signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte in 2019. It aims to improve healthcare access nationwide by automatically enrolling all Filipinos in the National Health Insurance Program.

Under the law, Filipinos are entitled to free medical consultations, laboratory tests, and other essential health services.
