FORMER Faculty of Arts and Letters (Artlets) dean Milagros V. Muñoz passed away on Nov. 22 at the age of 90.
Her death was announced by Artlets in a Facebook post and confirmed to the Varsitarian by her daughter, Maggie.
“The whole AB community joins the bereaved family and loved ones of Dean Muñoz in praying for the eternal repose of her soul,” the faculty’s post read.
Maggie said her mother passed away peacefully at home.
“She was a devoted, loving mother and wife and a generous teacher to her students,” she said.
Muñoz obtained her undergraduate degree in education from Maryknoll College, now known as Miriam College. She later pursued a master’s degree in linguistics in New York.
Before becoming Artlets dean from 1987 to 1990, Muñoz served as the faculty’s assistant dean and UST’s assistant registrar.
She also taught English and Spanish courses, specializing in translation and linguistics.
Prof. Joyce Arriola, chair of the UST Department of Communication and a former student of Muñoz, remembered the late dean as a strict yet effective educator.
“Her readings were very relevant, and she explained each concept well and carefully. She would stay in one concept and would give an extended explanation before she transitioned to another concept,” Arriola told the Varsitarian.
“I also learned a lot about technical writing from her, which has been useful to me,” she said.
Muñoz’s wake was held from Nov. 27 to 29 at the Dama de Noche Chapel of Funeraria Paz in Parañaque.
Her remains were interred on Dec. 1 at the St. Alphonsus Mary de Liguori Parish Church in Makati.
