ROBERTO “Bunny” Evangelista, a longtime UST employee who recently retired as a supervisor at the Office for Student Affairs (OSA), died on Jan. 27 following a heart attack. He was 66.

His death was confirmed to the Varsitarian by his son, Kevin.

“He was a friend to everybody. Always ready to give advice, be a mentor, and give a helping hand to anyone in need,” Kevin said.

Evangelista first worked at UST with the Office of the Vice Rector. He eventually became head of the Human Resources Department and Foreign Students Office, and traffic management committee head of the now-defunct Office for Student Affairs and Community Services.

His nephew, Daniel Castillo, described Evangelista as a generous man who ensured other people’s welfare.

“Tito Bunny was a positive presence in our lives. He always had a quick wit and fun stories to share. He was generous and constantly looked out for all of us,” Castillo said.

In 2009, Evangelista was named assistant for special services at OSA before being appointed supervisor.

Former OSA director Evelyn Songco described Evangelista as a diligent employee who would be best remembered for his loyalty to UST.

“[He] was a very proper person. He faithfully performed his assignments in the office,” Songco said. “He truly cared for the OSA team and the students who were assigned under his care. I will always remember his fidelity to the university and his friends.”

Evangelista retired from his post in 2024 after working at UST for more than four decades.

In 2021, he received a service award for 40 years of service during the Hiyas ng UST Awards.

Evangelista’s wake was held from Jan. 29 to 31 at the Sanctuarium in Quezon City.
