THE UST College of Education has been recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) with the Excellence in Quality Assurance in Teacher Education (Equate) Award, given to schools that consistently meet the standards for teacher education programs.
CHEd conferred the award on UST on April 2, with its chairman, J. Prospero de Vera III, citing the college’s commitment to “upholding the highest standard in the quality of pre-service teacher education programs.”
UST was among the 120 institutions recognized for attaining CHEd standards for program accreditation and their strong performance in licensure examinations for professional teachers.
Education Dean Pilar Romero said the award reflected the college’s brand of teaching and its efforts toward internationalization and collaboration with local governments and organizations.
“We are a much sought-after institution that provides cutting-edge training to teachers in various areas of specialization spawned by our partnerships with local government units, professional organizations, and school systems in the country,” Romero told the Varsitarian.
“We are once again recognized for the excellent brand of teacher education we offer but also because it reminds us that we have to up our ante even more and never be complacent,” she added.
In 2023, the college renewed its certification from the ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance. It also earned a Level IV accreditation status from the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation.
Romero said the college continues to update its curriculum to introduce innovative courses that will prepare students for professional practice.
Academic staff also constantly engage in training and immersion at local and international levels, the dean said.
“We plan to add more international institutions to our roster of partners to further enrich our curriculum, boost our research, and widen our sphere of influence not only at the local but even at the international setting,” she said.
The CHEd Equate Award was received by Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Cheryl Peralta alongside Romero, Asst. Dean Louie Dasas, and Asst. Prof. Vincent Caparas, chair of the UST Department of Elementary Education.
