THREE THOMASIAN priests have been named to important posts at the UST Central Seminary, the Office of the Secretary General (OSG) announced in a circular dated April 1. 

Fr. John Michael Balansi and Fr. Tommy Tiyanto, O.P., were named spiritual directors of the seminary, while Fr. Al Vincent Tumlos was appointed pastoral director of theology for seminarians in the configuration stage. 

Balansi, a former resident student-priest at UST, was ordained to the priesthood in January 2024. He will serve in the seminary post until Feb. 21, 2026.

Meanwhile, Tiyanto, an Indonesian Dominican who entered the priesthood just on Feb. 22, will serve in the UST Central Seminary until July 31, 2025.

Tumlos is the vice chancellor of the Archdiocese of Capiz. 

OSG also announced the appointment of Fr. Roman Santos, O.P., as the acting regent of the Education High School, a post he also holds at the College of Education.

Santos is an assistant archivist at the Archivo de la Universidad de Santo Tomas and the head of farm affairs at UST General Santos. 

Taking over as assistant manager of UST’s official merchandise shop, the University Store, is Fray Melencio Garcia, O.P..
