THE PASKUHAN Pop-up Village, one of the openers of UST’s long-awaited Paskuhan season, returned for the third straight year on Wednesday, Dec. 1.

Carrying the theme “Taste of Paskuhan,” the event opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by UST Secretary General Fr. Louie Coronel, O.P., together with Communications Bureau director Philippe Hernandez, Tiger Media Network business manager Gessie Krishnan, Public Affairs Director Michaella Lagniton.

The opening ceremony featured performances by artists Jarea, Job Centeno, CASA Footworks, and the UST Yellow Jackets.

Brianna Valdez, programming head at UST Tiger Radio, said the theme was meant to remind the Thomasians what the Paskuhan season, and Christmas as a whole, meant to the UST community.

“Taste of Paskuhan siya kasi, ‘di ba, every year naman nating ginagawa ang Paskuhan. And gusto lang nating i-continue ‘yong tradition na mayroon ang UST,” Valdez told the Varsitarian. “Thomasian identity na ‘yong pag-celebrate natin ng Paskuhan. For us, kapag Pasko dito sa UST, masaya.”

Valdez said the pop-up village sought to highlight this year’s Paskuhan theme “Light Among Us, Hope Through Us,” by highlighting how the Christmas season gives light and hope to many despite adversity.

The Christmas marketplace had five themed zones: “Paskong Panlasa” (Taste of Paskuhan), “Pamaskong Handog” (Gift Corner), “Saya sa Nayon” (Festive Playground), “Tinig ng Pasko” (Entertainment Zone), and “Nayon ng Pagbibigay” (Village of Giving).

It will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Dec. 1 to 5. Other artists are slated to perform in the upcoming days. With reports from Alexandra S. Demaisip
