The UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe, in collaboration with UST Coro Tomasino, staged its 54th dance concert titled “JUBILATE: Sayaw ng Pasasalamat, Dalit ng Pananampalataya,” at the Albertus Magnus Auditorium on April 10 and 11.
The performance was inspired by Filipino Catholic culture and practices, primarily during Lent, infused with a modern take on devotion.
The concert opened with a procession-like modern dance routine that showcased Filipinos’ long-standing, deeply rooted Holy Week traditions.
In an interview with the Varsitarian, Salinggawi president Jesela Agas said the creative vision for the show was to merge different forms of dance the organization had executed over the years, rather than focusing on one.
Several routines and choreographies performed by Salinggawi were accompanied by UST Coro Tomasino as a vocal ensemble.
“Actually, ‘yong collaboration na ‘to, once in a lifetime milestone namin. Kasi hindi usually nakikita magkasama ‘yong dance tsaka ‘yong chorale,” Agas added.
The production also featured a vocal performance from the inaugural champion of Kumu’s “Sing For The Stars” and former “Tawag ng Tanghalan” contestant Shane Gulle, accompanied by Salinggawi’s routine.
