Robredo has not said anything about seeking a recount if she loses the 2022 elections.
CLAIM: Leni Robredo will seek a recount of the 2022 presidential election if she loses to Bongbong Marcos.
RATING: False
Avid Marcos-Duterte supporter and frequent fact-check subject Jam Magno on May 7 claimed that Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo would ask for a recount after this year’s elections.
“The irony na si Leni naman ang magpapa-recount ngayon,” @ItsJamMagno said in a tweet.
Magno included in her tweet lyrics from Taylor Swift’s 2017 single, “Look What You Made Me Do”: “The world moves on, another day another drama But not for me, all I think about is karma
And then the world moves on, but one thing’s for sure Maybe I got mine, but you’ll all get yours,” seemingly suggesting that the vice president would be hit by karma.
Magno’s claim has no basis and is therefore false. The votes have yet to be counted and Robredo has not indicated that she would do what Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. did when he lost the vice-presidential election in 2016.
In 2016, Marcos claimed to be a victim of cheating and sought a recount in the provinces of Iloilo, Camarines Sur, and Negros Oriental.
However, the recount saw Robredo’s lead expanding to 278,566 from 263,473.
Last year, the Supreme Court dismissed Marcos’s electoral protest in a 15-0 vote, ruling that the ex-senator did not prove massive cheating in the vice-presidential contest.
