CLAIM: Queen Elizabeth II wore red and congratulated Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for winning the 2022 election
RATING: Satire
It’s not true that Queen Elizabeth II wore red and congratulated Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for winning the 2022 presidential election — a quote card containing the purported message and a red-clad image of the British monarch is satirical.
In the satirical “quote” card, “Queen Elizabeth” also “commented” that oligarchs were out to sabotage Marcos’ name, and that citizens kept on complaining. She then added that the Philippines did not have the “worse (sic) governance,” but the “worst citizens.”
On the upper right hand corner can be seen a watermark of a logo of controversial vlogger Thinking Pinoy.
At the bottom is the fictional website horbpQuirer.net, and the logo HORBP Files. The date stamped was May 11, 2021, a year before the 2022 elections.
The post appears to have originated from the political satire group House of Representa-thieves: Butasang Pambulsa, and posted by a certain Neil Pita on May 11, 2022. The acronym HORBP pertains to the group’s name.
The photo of Queen Elizabeth II that appears on the material was taken from an official engagement on May 22, 2021, where she wore the red outfit. It was taken by Steve Parsons and is available in Getty Images.
