AFTER suffering a 0-4 loss from six-time defending champions Adamson University in the first round, the UST Tiger Softbelles exacted revenge and handed the Lady Falcons a 1-0 loss in the UAAP Season 79 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Thursday.
Hannah de la Torre scored the lone run of the game as Celestine Palma drilled a flyball that went in the left field for a run-batted-in single in the first inning.
Softbelles pitcher Ann Antolihao had another solid game, never letting any Adamson player get past second base.
UST had a chance to convert another run in the fourth inning with Mallows Garde waiting at third base. But Janah Hernandez was stuck and Lealyn Guevarra’s line-drive hit was caught.
Head coach Sandy Barredo downplayed UST’s win, calling it a “non-bearing game” as the Softbelles remained idle at third place with a 5-3 record. Adamson and National University are tied at the top spot with a 6-1 record.
The Softbelles will face the University of the Philippines on Feb. 27, Monday, 9 a.m., at the same venue.
