Gerardine Go, an alumna of the UST College of Education, played a part in the Philippine women’s ice hockey team that earned a silver medal finish in the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games on Friday, Dec. 19, in Thailand.
The Philippine representatives suffered a 13-4 loss to Thailand in the finals, settling for silver in the first-ever iteration of the event.
The squad was the only team to score against the hosts throughout the tournament.
“Our silver finish in this SEA Games reflects all the hard work each and every one has put in throughout the years,” Go told the Varsitarian. “The silver medal is a big achievement. Given that Thailand is a really good team, us having to score 4 goals against them, and being the only team in the whole tournament to score against them, is a big achievement.”
The team defeated Singapore in the semifinals, 6-2.
The Filipinas finished the preliminary stage with a 2-1 win-loss record, with Go appearing in all five games for the Philippines.
Go, who plays as a defenseman, earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education major in special education in 2014.
She was also part of the Philippine delegation that clinched gold in the 2025 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women’s Asia and Oceania Championship, qualifying the team for its first-ever IIHF Women’s World Championship in 2026.
