Thomasian pole vaulter EJ Obiena captured the silver medal and set a season-best mark of 5.85 meters at Meeting Madrid 2026 on Friday, July 17.

Germany’s Bo Kanda Lita Baehre claimed the gold after clearing 5.90 meters, while Portugal’s Pedro Buaro took bronze after also clearing 5.85 meters but needing three attempts.

The 5.85-meter clearance eclipsed Obiena’s previous season-best of 5.81 meters, which he posted at the Fly Athens Street Pole Vault on July 6, where he placed fourth.

Obiena is currently ranked No. 14 in the men’s pole vault world rankings as he continues his climb back after injuries dropped him from as high as No. 2.
