Thomasian pole vaulter EJ Obiena captured the title at the inaugural International Pole Vault Meeting in Halberstadt, Germany, after clearing 5.76 meters on Friday, July 31 (Philippine time).
Obiena emerged on top of the 10-athlete field, extending his strong run after placing second at the Meeting Madrid on July 17, where he registered a season-best clearance of 5.85 meters.
The two-time Olympian cleared the winning height on his opening attempt before falling short in all three tries at 5.90 meters.
Qatar’s Abdelsalam Seifeldin finished with the silver medal after clearing 5.66 meters, while American Cole Walsh took bronze with a 5.56-meter clearance.
Obiena sits at No. 14 in the world men’s pole vault rankings.
