Thomasian pole vaulter EJ Obiena claimed his second straight gold medal in Germany after topping the 30th International Pole Vault Meeting in Jockgrim on Wednesday, Aug. 5 (Philippine time).
The back-to-back triumphs lifted Obiena to No. 13 in the world men’s pole vault rankings, moving up one spot from No. 14.
Obiena secured the title by clearing 5.83 meters on his first attempt, finishing ahead of Qatar’s Seifeldin Abdelsalam, who needed three attempts to match the height.
Turkey’s Ersu Sasma took the bronze medal after clearing 5.77 meters on his second attempt.
The victory came days after Obiena topped the inaugural International Pole Vault Meeting in Halberstadt, Germany, on Aug. 1, where he cleared 5.76 meters.
