
THE UST Tiger Shutters secured their first win in the UAAP Season 87 men’s badminton tournament after conquering the Adamson Soaring Falcons, 4-1, at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex Badminton Hall on Sunday, Oct. 13.
Tiger Shuttler team captain Lennox Cuilao swept Soaring Falcon Heaven Linaban, 21-18, 21-12, while Ivan Tuazon zoomed past Adamson’s Jhon Dema-Ano, 21-13, 21-19.
The tandem of Ron Galve and Janzen Panisales clinched UST’s first win in the doubles match by prevailing over Soaring Falcons Julius Fontanilla and Nathaniel Acedillo, 21-19, 21-14.
With the victory in the bag after Galve and Panisales’ performance, Cuilao teamed up with Bien Miraflor to pull off a 22-20, 21-13 sweep of Adamson’s Gabrielle Ganoy and Noel Hernandez Jr.
Adamson averted a sweep courtesy of Acedillo’s 21-15, 21-14 victory over UST’s John Ezpinosa.
“Nag-perform ‘yong mga seniors natin,” UST head coach Charlie Medina told the Varsitarian. “Need namin i-polish kung ano pa ‘yong kailangan naming strategies na gagawin sa next kalaban namin, which is Ateneo na defending champion.”
