FROM non-contenders, the UST Badminton Team has come a long way. The Female and Male Shuttlecockers delivered silver and bronze performances in the conclusion of the UAAP Badminton Tournament last Feb. 10 at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall.
Failing to zero in on the championship the day before after sorry losses against fancied teams, the UST Shuttlecockers went out in grand fashion as they outclassed their respective final assignments.
Push-overs no more
BADMINTON is one sport UST has not been able to dominate in the UAAP. It was included in the league only six years ago, but glory in the sport has been elusive to the España-based Shuttlecockers. In the first years of its entry in the UAAP competition, UST languished in the cellar against other powerhouse teams in the league.
After a humiliating 1999 season, which saw the women’s team placed sixth and the men’s squad relegated to seventh, changes had to be made to arrest the skid.
