The UST Junior Golden Sox fell to the NU Nazareth School (NUNS) Bullpups, 4-3, in their UAAP high school boys’ baseball tournament Round 2 opener on Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

UST slid to second place with a 3-2 record, while NUNS climbed to first at 4-2.

Tied at 2-2, first baseman Nash Ortiz committed a catching error in the eighth inning that allowed Justin Lauriquez to score and give NUNS a 3-2 lead.

The Bullpups then took a 4-2 advantage in the top of the ninth before UST tried to rally in the bottom half, with Jacky Lobos scoring on a throwing error to cut the deficit to 4-3.

With Joshua Ibabao at third base, Leshem Dawilan hit a grounder to Jericho Catchero, who threw to first in time to secure the victory for NUNS.

The Junior Golden Sox will next face the DLSZ Junior Green Batters on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the same venue.
