The UST Golden Sox faltered against the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons in six innings, 24-7, in the UAAP men’s baseball tournament on Wednesday, March 4, at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

The loss dropped the Golden Sox to a 1-2 record, while UP secured its first win since April 2025 to also move to 1-2.

The Golden Sox managed just five hits against UP’s 15 and committed 12 errors compared with UP’s three.

UST had a decent first inning behind hits from Marvin Trillana and Ybbrahim Degollacion that helped produce four runs.

But that proved to be their only bright spot in the game as UP answered with 10 runs in the second inning, fueled by back-to-back hits from VJ Mangahas and John Mark Natanawan.

Two fielding errors from the Golden Sox contributed to the 10-4 surge, with UP adding 14 more runs over the next four innings.

Trillana stood out offensively for UST with three runs batted in (RBIs).

UST shuffled through four pitchers to no avail, with Cedrick Marquez surrendering 14 runs.

The Golden Sox will look to bounce back against the NU Bulldogs on Sunday, March 8, at the same venue.
