The UST Junior Golden Sox have secured the commitments of John Albert Alega and Israel Cesar Surio, both silver medalists at the 2026 Palarong Pambansa held in Agusan del Sur from May 24 to 31.
Alega and Surio suited up for the Nalucaban Baseball Team and represented the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) Region VIII, which finished with the silver medal in the national meet.
UST assistant coach Mario Cerda Jr. said the pair was recruited because of their strong baseball fundamentals and versatility on the field.
“Through their performance, nakita namin ang kanilang potential, competitiveness, at kakayahang maglaro sa mas mataas na level,” he told the Varsitarian.
“These qualities will help strengthen the UST Golden Sox Program and contribute to its continued success.”
Both incoming Grade 11 students are expected to reinforce the Junior Golden Sox’s defense next season, with Alega and Surio capable of contributing both as pitchers and infielders.
Recently, UST captured the championships in the Philippine TOT Baseball Federation South and North Divisions and went on to secure the overall general championship.
