THE UST Tiger Cubs sustained their third loss, yielding to the FEU-D Baby Tamaraws, 90-83, to conclude their first-round run in the UAAP Season 87 junior high school basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday, Oct. 5.

With the loss, the Tiger Cubs dropped to solo third in the standings with a 4-3 win-loss card, while the Baby Tamaraws strengthened their hold of second place with a 6-1 card.

A late 3-pointer by Theodore Lim propelled UST to a narrow two-point lead, 78-76, with 3:19 left in the game.

However, 6-foot-7 FEU big Prince Carino scored seven straight to push the Baby Tamaraws to an 83-78 advantage with less than two minutes remaining.

UST’s Andwele Cabañero and Jhon Canapi quickly responded, trimming the lead down to two, 83-81. However, Carino and CP Miranda sealed the victory with three straight baskets, 89-81.

Carino scored 16 of his 28 points in the fourth period.

Canapi finished with 29 points, seven rebounds and five steals, while Cabañero registered a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds.

Tiger Cub Dustin Bathan, who played all 40 minutes of action, was limited to 12 points on 4-for-19 shooting but still racked up seven assists, three steals and one block.
