A fundraising exhibition game between the UST Growling Tigers and GMA Sparkle artists will serve as the main attraction of UST’s UAAP Season 89 kickoff celebration on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Quadricentennial Pavilion.
UST officials and GMA Network executives signed a partnership deal for “The Roar: A Celebrity Match” on Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the Rector’s Hall.
“I hope that this will create a memorable campus experience for the entire Thomasian community that will promote sportsmanship, wellness, teamwork, and camaraderie,” GMA Network Senior Vice President Annette Gozon-Valdes said.
Team rosters for the Tigers and GMA’s “Sparkle Stars” have yet to be unveiled.
Also present during the signing were Charles Isaac Deita of UST carpark operator flexIT Mobility Solutions, the event producer; UST Secretary General Fr. Louie Coronel, O.P.; Joy C. Marcelo, first vice president, Sparkle GMA Artist Center; and Asst. Prof. Jaezamie V. Ong, director, UST Office for Student Affairs and project head.
Before the celebrity exhibition, the UST Tiger Cubs will take on members of the University administration, faculty and alumni in a separate game.
The kickoff event also seeks to raise financial support for UST’s student-athletes and athletic programs through ticket sales, sponsorships and institutional partnerships.
UAAP Season 89 will be hosted by Far Eastern University after UST staged Season 88.
