THE UST Lady Spikers’ rookie tandem of Merry Rose Jauculan and Derie Rose Virtuoso claimed the championship title in the 22nd Philippine University Games women’s beach volleyball tournament in Iloilo.
The España-based duo pounded National University Lady Bulldogs pair Chantal Rodriguez and Kathrina Epa in the finals with a 21-17, 21-9 victory.
The tandem swept University of Mindanao-Davao, University of Saint La Salle and National University in the eliminations, and drubbed University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos in the semifinals.
“’Yung programa sa UST ang nagpanalo. Lahat binibigyan namin ng exposure para kung sino ‘yung mag-excel, ‘siya ‘yung gagamitin namin sa UAAP,” UST head coach Paul Jan Doloiras told the Varsitarian.
The tournament was hosted by University of San Agustin and ran from Oct. 24 to 26.
