THE UST Lady Woodpushers ended their winless streak in Stage 2 after edging out the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 2.5-1.5, in the UAAP Season 87 women’s chess tournament at the Adamson University Gymnasium on Wednesday, Nov. 13.

UST moved up to fifth place with 11 match points and 16 game points, while the Blue Eagles dropped to fourth place with 14 match points and 25 game points.

Josemier Panol and Precious Yecla bounced back from their two-game losing streak as they outwitted Ateneo’s Kristine Flores and Maria Villa, respectively.

UST’s Rohanisah Buto failed to nab her second win after faltering to Lexie Hernandez in Board 2.

Lady Woodpusher rookie Faith Tabungar remained winless in the tournament but delivered UST the match win after settling for a draw with Alphecca Gonzales.

The UST Lady Woodpushers will look to continue their winning momentum against the championship-seeking FEU Lady Tamaraws at the same venue on Saturday, Nov. 16.
