THE UST Lady Woodpushers crumbled against the DLSU Lady Woodpushers, 3.5-0.5, to absorb their first loss in the UAAP Season 88 women’s chess tournament at the Adamson Gym on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
Despite the setback, UST remained at the top of the standings with four match points and seven game points, while DLSU rose to second with six match points in the victory.
In Board 1, Lady Woodpusher’s Precious Yecla, through her Sicilian Defense, fell short against Francois Magpily in 40 moves.
UST’s Jamaica Lagrio was outmaneuvered by Juzeia Agne in 57 moves with her Anti-Accelerated Dragon approach in Board 2.
In Board 3, Josemier Panol also suffered her first loss of the season after fumbling against Rinoa Sadey’s Sicilian Defense in 49 moves.
Meanwhile, UST’s Rohanisah Buto made her Season 88 debut but settled for a stalemate against Heart Padilla after 80 moves.
The UST Lady Woodpushers will look to return to the winning column when they face the Adamson Lady Falcon Woodpushers on Sunday, Oct. 5, at the same venue.
