The UST Junior Lady Woodpushers faltered against the FEU Baby Tamaraws, 2.5-1.5, to absorb their first loss in the UAAP Season 88 girls’ chess tournament at the Adamson Gym on Saturday, Oct. 4.

The Junior Lady Woodpushers dropped to second in the standings with four match points and 5.5 game points.

Meanwhile, the NU-Nazareth School Bullpups climbed to the top with four match points and 6.5 game points.

On Board 1, UST’s Daren de la Cruz fell to FIDE Master Ruelle Canino, while Trina Temple suffered her first loss of Season 88 after crumbling against Ericka Ordizo’s Queen’s Gambit Declined.

Junior Lady Woodpusher Iana Sotaridona made her season debut but settled for a stalemate against Lyn Getubig in 92 moves.

Mecel Gadut’s Four Pawns Attack secured the Junior Lady Woodpushers’ lone win over LJ Letubig in just 28 moves.

The Junior Lady Woodpushers will look to bounce back against the Adamson Soaring Falcons and the Bullpups on Sunday, Oct. 5, at the same venue.
