The UST Institute of Physical Education and Athletics (IPEA) has entered into a partnership with Japan’s Nippon Sport Science University (NSSU) to boost athletic exchanges.
IPEA Director and Regent Fr. Rodel S. Cansancio, O.P. said the collaboration would focus on three key areas: faculty, students, and sports exchanges between the two institutions.
The agreement, signed Feb. 19 at the Rector’s Hall, seeks to enhance cooperation in physical education, sports science and athletics through student and faculty exchanges, joint research efforts, and specialized training initiatives.
“Moving forward, we are looking to expand this partnership to include faculty and student exchange programs, which could lead to great opportunities for academic and research collaboration,” Cansancio told the Varsitarian.

During the offseason, NSSU supported the Golden Tigresses’ training camp by providing the UST team access to its facilities for practices and tuneup games.
The signing ceremony was attended by UST Rector Fr. Richard Ang, O.P., Cansancio, and other IPEA administrators.
NSSU was represented by its vice president, Koichi Nakazato, and Gakushi Nakamura, manager of its international center office.
The signing came after an NSSU delegation visited UST on Oct. 16 for an exploratory meeting on potential academic and research partnerships.
Established in 1893 and granted university status in 1949, NSSU is focused on sports science and physical education.
