The UST Golf Team delivered its strongest performance so far in the men’s division of the UAAP Season 88 golf tournament on Wednesday, May 13, at Tagaytay Midlands.
UST improved to a 743 aggregate in men’s play after carding a 231 in the third round, its best output through three days of competition. However, the team remained in fourth place entering the final round.
UST showed slight improvement under rain-affected conditions, cutting strokes from its previous rounds, but still trailed leaders De La Salle University (DLSU), which posted a 673 total after a 233 round to maintain a commanding advantage.
The University of the Philippines stayed in second with 692, highlighted by Joshua Buenaventura’s 73, while the Ateneo Blue Eagles remained in third with 704 after matching La Salle’s 233 in the third round.
In the women’s division, UST continued to struggle after carding a 317 on Day 3 for a 969 aggregate to stay in fourth place.
UST failed to produce low rounds amid difficult, rain-soaked conditions that disrupted play in the latter half of the round, widening the gap further from the top three teams.
La Salle remained in control with a 788 total, followed by Ateneo with 803 and UP with 855.
No UST player cracked the leading group in the individual standings in either division after 54 holes.
With one round left, UST will try to end its campaign on a stronger note in the final round on Thursday, May 14, at the same venue.
