The UST Golf Team finished in fourth place in both the men’s and women’s divisions of the inaugural UAAP Season 88 golf tournaments, which concluded on Thursday, May 14, at Tagaytay Midlands.
UST carded a 262 in the final round of the men’s division to end the tournament with a 1,005 aggregate, holding on to fourth place in the five-team field.
In the women’s division, UST also finished fourth after posting a 320 for a 1,289 tournament aggregate.
“Very positive ‘yong nakuha naming (experiences) this tournament,” UST coach Rev Alcantara told the Varsitarian. “Lots of learning, especially sa mga players ko kasi maraming mga freshman.”
De La Salle University (DLSU) completed a dominant campaign to capture the championship with an 898 total, while the University of the Philippines (UP) placed second with 928 and the Ateneo Blue Eagles finished third with 938.
DLSU also ruled the women’s division with a 1,056 total, followed by Ateneo with 1,077 and UP with 1,138.
No UST player finished in the top five of the individual standings in either division, as the team struggled to match the pace of the leading schools across four rounds.
The tournament served as the final event of UAAP Season 88, closing the league calendar with golf making its debut as a demonstration sport.
