The UST Tiger Softbelles trounced the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 7-2, in the UAAP Season 88 women’s softball tournament on Saturday, March 7, at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

UST improved to a 2-1 record, tying defending champion Adamson for second place after the Falcons lost to UP in a shocking upset earlier in the day. Meanwhile, Ateneo remained winless at 0-4.

Tied at 1-1 in the first inning, the Tiger Softbelles knocked in four runs in the second behind Jojielyn Lim’s double and hits from Samantha Sarsuelo and Jaemie Bueza to create a 5-1 cushion.

UST extended the lead in the fifth inning, scoring two more runs to seal the win, 7-2.

Jaemie Bueza led the offense for UST with three hits, including two doubles, and three RBIs, while Erika Fernandez contributed two hits.

Sheila Sicor controlled the mound, limiting Ateneo to just one hit.

The Tiger Softbelles will next face the UP Fighting Maroons on Tuesday, March 10, at the same venue.
