The UST Tiger Softbelles thrashed the Ateneo Blue Eagles in five innings, 10-3, to open the second round of the UAAP Season 88 softball tournament on Saturday, March 14, at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
UST improved to 4-1 to maintain a tie for first place with UP, while Ateneo slid to 0-5.
The Tiger Softbelles surged in the first inning behind Anna Rose Macatbag’s two-RBI single, which plated Gen Degollacion and Helga Campos for a 3-1 lead.
Degollacion powered UST, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs, along with Campos and Aiza Ganziar, who had an RBI apiece.
Celine Chang retired two batters and allowed three hits before Shanna Europa struck out two Ateneo batters to seal the win.
Ateneo committed seven errors and recorded five hits, while UST went error-free and had seven hits.
UST will next face the DLSU Green Batters on Saturday, March 21, at the same venue.
