May 28, 2015, 10:02 a.m. – THE UST Growling Tigers
returned to the winning column after surviving the Lyceum of the Philippines
University Pirates, 72-66, in the 2015 FilOil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at the
San Juan Arena Wednesday.

UST lost a 65-52 lead in the fourth quarter after a 10-0
Pirates’ run, but Ed Daquiaog and Christian Kakonda buried key baskets down the
stretch to give the Growling Tigers their third win in six games.

Daquioag topscored anew for the Tigers with 16 points, while
Kent Lao added 15 markers highlighted by four three-pointers.

“Killing
instinct namin [nawala]. They (Lyceum) were down by 12 then all of a
sudden nag-relax kami. Good thing naka-recover,” UST head coach Bong dela
Cruz said.

The Tigers made Lyceum pay on offense as UST scored 22
points off 21 turnovers by the Pirates.

UST opened up an 11-point lead in the third quarter after
five straight points from Jasper Magno, 59-48.

Guy Mbida paced the Pirates with 21 points.

UST will next face the South Western University on June 3,
1:30 pm, at the same venue. Delfin Ray M. Dioquino
