UST junior judo team bags 20 medals in invitational meet

THE UST Junior Golden Judokas bagged 20 medals in the inaugural REI UST Alumni Judo Invitational Tournament at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion Sunday.

The team finished with a 5-5-10 gold-silver-bronze tally in a solid performance coach Paul De Vera hoped would carry over to the upcoming UAAP season.

Marielie Batal (-44kg) and Angelica Gutang (-57kg) each won gold medals in the women’s division while Julia Mae Rivero (-44kg) and Kathleen Ferriols (+78kg) finished with silver.

Jerrybels Pagatpat (-44kg), Daisy Lipasana (-48kg), Danica Barela (-52kg), Angela Alforez (-57kg), Russell Arconado (-63kg) and Aleli Esguerra (-63kg) all pocketed bronze medals.

UST’s Russel Lorenzo (-60kg), Ryan Benavidez (-66kg) and John Mari Quilang (-73kg) topped their respective divisions in men’s play.

Nick Gabriel Ligero (-60kg), Shergeon De Rosa (-66kg) and Lorenzo Tolentino (+100kg) each bagged silver medals for UST.

Zildjian Santos (-73kg), JC Anicieto (-81kg), Aaron Reyes (-90kg) and Tristan Reyes (100kg) each took home bronze medals.

Events under the senior division were cancelled due to lack of time.

Other participating teams were University of Cordillera, Muntinlupa Judo Club, Fearless Judo Club from University of the Philippines, Far Eastern University, Ateneo Judo Association, University of Mindanao, University of the East and De La Salle Zobel.

The REI-UST Alumni Judo Invitational Tournament was organized by the UST Varsity Judo Club in association with the UST Alumni Judo.
