Former UST Lady Judoka and world No. 1 Aislinn Yap captured the gold medal at the 2026 Asia and Oceania Sambo Championships on Sunday, June 28, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Yap defeated Kazakhstan’s Guldana Almukhanbetova in the women’s combat sambo -80 kg division to cap the Philippines’ campaign in the tournament.

Yap spent more than a decade competing in judo before shifting to sambo in 2022.

She also helped UST win back-to-back

championships in UAAP Seasons 77 and 78.

Princess Cortez and Jomary Torres likewise struck gold on Saturday to complete the Philippines’ golden haul.
