The UST Growling Tigers secured the commitment of Gilas Youth guard Andrew Chio just days before the start of their UAAP Season 89 campaign.
Chio will have five years of eligibility. He adds to UST’s backcourt rotation that was depleted with the departures of Forthsky Padrigao and Kyle Paranada.
He made his debut for the Tigers in their Pinoyliga – Collegiate Cup match against the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers in July, where he finished with five points, one rebound and one assist.
The 6-foot-1 guard posted averages of 8.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists for Gilas Youth in the 2026 SEABA U-18 Championship.
During the offseason, UST brought in one-and-done recruits Lorenzo Abellar, Landyn Jumawan and Donovan Sevilla, along with former Tiger Cubs Kirk Canete and Charles Esteban.
The Tigers begin their Season 89 campaign against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons on Sept. 13, before facing the De La Salle University Green Archers on Sept. 16 and the Adamson University Soaring Falcons on Sept. 30.
