UST Prime ruled the collegiate division of the “Dance Supremacy Kings and Queens” streetdance competition, while UST Galvanize won in the high school division.

This marked the first time Prime competed in the men’s division, while its women’s team improved on last year’s third-place finish.

“Both teams outdid themselves in their performances,” Prime head coach Chips Beltran told the Varsitarian. “It was quite challenging since the competition was right after the break and we had exams, Paskuhan, Christmas, and New Year break before going back to training.”

Prime posted a score of 92.83 in the men’s division and 92.12 in the women’s division of the competition held on Saturday, Jan. 10, at The Theater at Solaire.

Beltran said the competition served as a learning experience for the teams’ new members, with the championship results viewed as a bonus.

“There are also a lot of newbies in both teams that’s why I am so glad that they get to experience competing this early. The championships were really just a bonus, their growth was the top priority,” he said.

The Company of Ateneo Dancers and the FEU Dance Company placed second and third, respectively, in the men’s division.

On the women’s side, FEU and Ateneo finished second and third, respectively.

In the high school division, UST Galvanize reclaimed the Queens high school championship with a score of 95.83.

Galvanize did not field an entry in the boys’ high school division.
