University athletes get help

WITH the scientific training they would be undergoing at the Center for Research on Movement Science (CRMS), Thomasian athletes have lesser reasons not to achieve sports excellence.

According to College of Rehabilitation Science (CRS) Dean Dr. Consuelo Suarez, the Center will train the athletes not just physically, but study their physical development as well.

“If you’re not physically fit, you won’t be able to perform. So what we’re doing is we are assessing their physical fitness,” she said.

Lady Batters pull off miracle

DESPITE dropping all three of their elimination games to a more fancied Adamson squad, the UST Lady Batters defied the odds and scored a 7-0 victory over the Filomeno “Boy” Codiñera-mentored Lady Falcons to annex the Manila Youth Games (MYG) Softball title last April 12 at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

The UST Lady Batters made it to the championship game by relying on a grand-slam from up-and-coming sophomore right fielder Gedda Valencia as they creamed a lowly Polytechnic University of the Philippines, 11-0.

UST High is Cheermania’s best

THE UST High School (HS) Cheering Team left the entire gymnasium slack-jawed as they ripped the title from two-time champion Faculty of Arts and Letters (Artlets) during the Cheermania 2003 last January 31.

The HS team led the competition with a total average of 88.7 per cent, winning the judges’ favor with their perky movements and solid pyramid stunts. Placing second was the Artlets team with an average score of 88.2, while the College of Education placed third with a total of 76 percent.

REPEAT PERFORMANCE?

A SECOND straight UAAP lawn tennis championship is not far-fetched, that is, if the performances of the Tiger Tennisters in the off-season will be used as a measuring stick.

After defeating nemesis Ateneo for the men’s lawn tennis title last year, the UST Tennisters went on to win three more crowns outside of the UAAP.

Last April, UST continued its winning ways by defeating De La Salle University to grab the Interschool title of the National Open Tennis Championships in Subic.
