Tiger Spikers to represent RP in Asia tourney

FOUR former UST Tiger Spikers made it to the 18-man roster of the Philippine Men’s National Club Team that will compete in the Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championships on April 6 to 8 here in the Philippines.

Among the 50 hopefuls from different leagues such as UAAP, NCAA and Philippine Super Liga, UST Golden Tigresses assistant coach Christian Fernandez, Paul Doloiras, Jayson Ramos and JP Torres made the cut. With the straight-set loss to NU, 25-16, 25-20, 25-23, the Golden Tigresses would have to win all their remaining games in the second round to keep their Final Four hopes alive, said coach Odjie Mamon.

Mamon said his wards became complacent against UST. “I noticed the tendency of the girls to relax in the last, most crucial moments of the game,” he said.

Monfort’s pass put Baya in a one-on-one situation with UST’s goalkeeper but the goalie quickly dove for the ball before Baya could kick it in.

Just a few seconds before the final whistle was blown, Francisco Santos emerged ahead of the pack after a scramble in the midfield.
